Summer & Short Term Teaching Opportunities
Villa Le Balze’s Summer Sessions offer Georgetown faculty from the Main Campus a chance to develop and teach a study abroad course for four weeks during the summer term. Unlike the Villa’s semester undergraduate program, the summer offers greater flexibility for curricular innovation and period of the teaching commitment.
The summer term is divided into two consecutive Summer Sessions. Session I runs from mid-May to mid-June, and Session II runs from mid-June to late July. Each Session offers a menu of 4-6 unique elective courses and a one-credit required course. Students may mix and match courses across one or more Summer Sessions to customize the timing, duration, and academic intensity of their study abroad experience.
All courses are taught onsite for a period of four weeks, followed by a short reading and exam period. As a basic expectation, courses are expected to hold four two-hour class meetings per week (32 hours, total). Courses are also expected to devote an additional 6-8 hours to experiential or project-based learning. The course schedule is designed to allow flexibility for individual faculty to exchange contact hours in the classroom for increased experiential programming, in coordination with the Villa Le Balze Academic Director and staff.
