Summer & Short Term Teaching Opportunities
Every summer, Villa Le Balze hosts short-term academic programs directed and taught by Georgetown faculty. These programs, usually between 2-3 weeks in length, are fantastic opportunities for short-term international teaching experience that offer students a deep dive into a specific subject area. While varying widely in content, these programs are generally marked by diverse and interdisciplinary course topics, experiential and field-based pedagogies, and use of the Villa and its surrounding resources as an immersive learning environment.
Proposing a New Summer Program
The Office of Global Education at Georgetown University accepts proposals from Georgetown faculty members interested in developing new academic programs for future summer terms at Villa Le Balze. The annual proposal deadline is May 1 of the year prior to the expected launch of the program.
While OGE welcomes expressions of interest and proposals from cross the university, the most successful proposals will:
- Integrate knowledge and perspectives from across different disciplines to address core themes and questions related to the Villa’s foundational learning objectives and or the biennial academic theme.
- Demonstrate active, student-centered and experience-based learning methods.
- Take advantage of the location and resources of Villa Le Balze, Fiesole and Florence.

Proposals should be submitted using the Villa Le Balze Program Proposal Form to Gregory Spear, Assistant Director of Global Living and Learning Programs (firstname.lastname@example.org) by May 1. We strongly encourage interested faculty members to contact OGE to schedule a preliminary meeting at least one month before the proposal deadline.
While non-Georgetown faculty and subject area experts may teach or co-teach on summer programs at the Villa, all programs should be proposed by a Georgetown faculty member with whom ultimate academic oversight of the program resides.
