Undergraduate Programs
At the heart of Villa Le Balze’s academic mission and identity is undergraduate education. Every year, the Villa welcomes cohorts of undergraduate students to study on its grounds. Whether enrolled for an entire semester or summer, all students who come to the Villa become part of its tradition and contribute to its commitment to transformative global learning.
Undergraduate Living and Learning Communities
All Villa Le Balze undergraduate programs are comprehensive academic and residential living and learning experiences, intentionally designed around a set of core values and traditions. They share many of the structural features and learning objectives of Living Learning Communities on Main Campus, including the cultivation of community around shared interest and experience, dialogue, and purposeful engagement with faculty outside the classroom.
In addition to its emphasis on community-building, Villa Le Balze programs expose students to the language and culture of Italy in immersive and authentic ways. Students are challenged to continuously reflect on the individual and shared experience of living abroad, and to cultivate a sense of identity within the dual contexts of a residential community of peers as well as a new cultural environment. This combination of two proven high-impact practices — the community-cohort model and global education — makes Villa Le Balze unique among the many study abroad experiences available to Georgetown students.
